如月の雪にしづもる谷間(たにあい)は我が故郷にし まほろの地なり

<From the warm winter to the cold wave/ 暖冬から寒波到来>

 

今冬は暖冬といわれています。昨年の12月から今年の2月まで、当地は降雪が全くないわけではありませんでしたが、極めて少なく、異常気象を感じました。立春後、寒波がやってきて、大雪や粉雪、1週間、連日降雪しついに本格的な冬を見た思いでした。

 

This winter is said to be a warm winter.  From last December to the beginning of this February, it was not without snowfall at all in this region, but I felt a very little and unusual weather.  According to the Lunar calendar, February 4th is the first day of spring.  On that day, the cold wave hit here and we had snow, which was heavy snow or powdery, day after day for a week.  I felt like that, at last, I saw the real winter.

向かひ居て逢ふことなきの君なれど交はせし文に涙の涸れず

 

although

I didn’t meet with you

face to face…

reading your e-mails again

makes me have endless tears

雨うつ夜 はらふが如く蟠(わだかま)る心の裡を打ち明けにけり

 

raining all night…

as if keeping off evil

I talk to you

about discomfort lurking in

my mind

寒に入るも雪はだらにし雪原の流沙の童(わらべ)この冬見えず

 

even the coldest season…

snow lying

in thin patches…

Wind Kid of the snow desert

is not seen this winter

 

※例年の冬の情景を思い浮かべながら暖冬の今冬の景色を詠いました。当地のこれまでの冬は、毎日のように降雪し、一帯の田野は真っ白い砂漠のように見える雪原に変わり、冷たい風は時おり雪と戯れているようにも見えました。が、今冬は、1月になっても雪が田んぼを蔽いつくすほど降らず、地肌は見えたままでした。

写真は秋田県湯沢市稲庭で撮りました。

 

In this piece, I depicted the warm winter scene while thinking of the usual winter scene.  About the winter of these areas until last winter, snow fell almost every day, and the entire area of ​​rice fields turned into snowy fields that looked like a pure white desert.  The cold winds sometimes seemed to play with snow.  However, this winter, even in January, the snow had not fallen enough to cover the rice fields, and the ground remained visible.

The photograph was taken at Inaniwa, Yuzawa City, Akita.

山茱萸の実の寒雨に濡れ透きとおる雫こぼせば空あかるめる

 

corn fruits

raindrops giving glory

to the sky

雪はつかなる冬なれど御祭りの雪堂つまれ灯火継ぎゆく

 

although snow

falls a little and piles up thin…

a Winter Festival are made

candles kept lighting up

龍神のあやしの気象正さむか立春すぎて寒波到来

 

do Dragon Gods

make abnormal weather

normal?

久しきの白雪おほふ桜木や 雪しひたぐと思はざるかな

 

after a long absence

white snow falling on

cherry-trees…

I may not think

that it oppresses them

何ものと思はざりして歩みきて夜業(よなべ)の稿に雪しんしんと

 

not thinking what I am

I have been as I am

silent

snow accompanying

my night-work writing

白々とあはひ煌く雪靄は天女の衣か冬の谿間(たにあい)

 

Snowmist

between welkin and earth

brightening white

like Celestial Maiden’s raiment

… a wintry valley
