Rain comes to an end  

the sound of a running stream

in the warbler’s voice

鵜が飛び出すところ

突然のダイビングから

 

Under autumn stars 

I’m smaller than the pebble 

stuck inside my shoe

秋の星の下で

私は靴の中に刺さった小石よりも小さい

Perched on the dead tree

heron’s legs are as stiff as

the branch he stands on

 

 

枯れ木にとまっている

サギの足は堅い

立っている枝と同じくらい

 

A peace offering—

child draws a small butterfly 

on sister’s napkin  

 

平和の捧げ物

子供が小さな蝶を描く

姉のナプキンに

 

Inside the Bible—

pressing the orange blossom 

of a cut cosmos

 

聖書の中

切ったコスモスのオレンジの花を押している

 

Ant stops at the edge 

of a curved petal, and peers

into the abyss 

 

 

アリが曲がった花びらの端で止まる

そしてじっと見つめる

奈落の底を

BIO:

Priscilla Lignori is a haiku poet and a psychotherapist in private practice. She is the recipient of numerous international awards for haiku poetry including the 2013 Basho Memorial English Haiku Contest and the 2016 and 2018 Kiyoshi and Kiyoko Tokutomi Memorial Haiku Contest.  

The founder of Hudson Valley Haiku-kai, a haiku group that meets monthly to share and discuss their haiku, she has published one book of haiku poetry, Beak Open, Feet Relaxed: 108 Haiku
