not yet spring -
the tree frogs sing on 
unmelted snow 

まだ春ではない
アマガエルが鳴く
溶けていない雪の上

we never ask
they keep offering -
cherry blossoms 

私たちは決して尋ねない
彼らは提供し続ける
桜の花
*
learning not to cling 
to this floating world -
heron ascending in snow 

しがみつかないことを学ぶ
この浮いている世界に
雪の中で昇るサギ

walking home
from the bodega -
the smell of apples in snow 

家に帰る
ボデガから
雪の中のリンゴの匂い

before the news 
the light
in the middle of the lake 

ニュースの前に
光
湖の真ん中に

being an island 
unto oneself -
full winter moon 

島であること
自分自身になる
冬の満月

an old woman's cares 
are hard to sweep away -

  1. I enjoyed them all, all wonderful images. Especially “an island to oneself…” which reflects my life with Covid lurking near.
