<田沢湖へ5 首/ Five pieces of Tanka for Lake Tazawa,  1～5>

ゴールデンウィーク中、秋田県仙北市にある田沢湖に行ってきました。

During the Golden Week holidays, I visited Lake Tazawa in Semboku City, Akita Prefecture, Japan.

Note: Golden week is a period of consecutive national holidays. This year 2023’s Golden Week was from April 29 through May 7.

1-

淡桜(あわざくら) 新緑うつす田沢湖の水面ゆかしき金青(こんじょう)の妙

Lake Tazawa

reflecting faint pink cherry

and fresh greenery

on the serene surface

in lapis lazuli blue

2-

田沢湖は生成の水を讃へて永遠(とわ)の美語る辰子伝説

Lake Tazawa

praising water as the spring

of creation

has passed down eternal beauty

桜色けぶる山々うるはしく辰子華やぐゴールデンウィーク

beautiful mountains

haze of cherry drifting

resplendent Tatsuko

now, it’s

Golden Week Holiday

※ゴールデンウイーク中、田沢湖には多くの人が訪れ、辰子姫像は人気のスポットで活気がありました。

During Golden Week, Lake Tazawa attracted many visitors, and the Statue of Princess Tatsuko was a popular and lively spot.

山風のおだしき湖面に影うつす萌黄の下枝（しずえ）ひそやかに光(て)る

mountain breezes

on the lake water’s surface…

lower branches

of yellow-green cast shadows

and modestly flash

5-

御座石神社(ごさのいしじんじゃ)の清（すが）しき茅の輪に雅楽の調べ高きに流る

Gozanoishi Shrine

with sacred cogon grass ring

for purification …

high ethereal court music

flows through

＜春の桜と山へ＞

6-

束の間の華愛でらるる桜霞(はながすみ) 自然(じねん)のままに花びらは舞ひ

brief life…

beloved cherry’s haze

petals 

dancing to the ground

as nature decrees

7-

春天に老若つどふ満凛の桜ひろごるアルカディアの野

Arcadia field …

young and old, all ages

gathering

under the spring sky

full bloom cherry spreading

8 – For edible wild plants / 山菜へ

光うちより立ちてのぼりけり山あかるきところ宝ありなむ

light rising

from the inside

and going up

there may be treasures

in the mountain’s bright spot

9-

For Japanese rose in a deserted garden / 廃園の山吹へ

廃苑の一隅に咲(え)む山吹や しばし懐(おも)へよ春栄(さか)ゆるに

golden flowers in a corner

of deserted garden…

for a while, reminisce

how it once flourished

for it’s spring now

10-

クロノスは今おだやかに我抱き源平咲は宥和を謳ふ

Kronos

now gently enwraps me

red and white

Gempei cherry blooming

in praise of peace
