Haiku by Lakshmi Iyer
earth walk
on the ground
to be grounded
autumn rain
mother’s bare feet
crouched on earth
from the aircraft
a tiny speck of house
i call my home
Earth day
… and my footprints washed
in the timeless tide
wondering where
the earth meets the sky
day dreaming moon
morning dew
the banyan tree
rooted to its root
in the pond
in the ripples
my feet in the moon
my side of earth
your land on earth
a common noun
picking up weeds
picking up flowers
i pick up myself
autumn wind
the sound of trees dropping
their belongings
digging the soil deep
from my manicured nails
summer’s end

My Bio
Lakshmi Iyer, a homemaker lives in ‘God’s own country’, Kerala in India. She came across haiku five years back and liked its minimalistic form, especially the way it could see the unread and read the unseen!
Now, it’s almost as if words follow her all day long and she has the pick of the best.
She likes to live in the breath of words that speak of her observations, the experiences, inner silences and the elements of nature that resonate within her.
She feels blessed to have known many senior poets in the world of haikai. Her haikai poems have been published in Under the Basho, Brass Bell, Whiptail, Poetry Pea, Failed Haiku, THF, haikuKATHA, Bloo Outlier, Cattails and many other journals and anthologies worldwide.
