World Haiku Series 2022 (66) Haiku by Luciana Moretto (Italy)

Haiku by Luciana Moretto

***

darting fish
in the Doge’s Palace
changeover

***

tamped into earth
a fragile cutting
homesickness

***

a ribbon of sky
wood pigeons’ dominion
birdies missing

***

spring morn in my village
familiar faces
obituaries

***

chewing roots
for water
wells dried up

***

the sun’s dazzle
unlit maze
of crying and loss

***
global climate
the ten plagues of Egypt
we are well on track

***

the birch grove
overwhelmed
I fill in the gap

***

on the seabed
nameless refugees
All Saints’ Day

***

facing off
the stakes higher and higher
we shiver with cold

***

shedding…
the fall of moments
into moments

***

North wind
harsher than usual
everything on hold

Thoughts by Luciama Moretto:

Corollary of peace that’s all we need, our mind at rest is essential requirement for our spiritual as well as physical well-being.

On the assumption that Haikus curb word waste, the goal of this literary genre is to respect the medium of any authentic meditation: silence.

And while words falling straight into silence benefit words, we understand how the dispersion of poetic voice is akin to the unfathomable muteness of Nature.

Let us not forget that poetry is an expression of love living only in silence, a secret pact between two people, strangers most of the time.

A great philosopher once said: ‘ I’m afraid of talking, for while not ever saying enough, I all but always say too much.’

I could not agree more.
