― Two pieces of tanka to the pomegranate flowers, which I saw on my morning walk.
朝の散歩時に見た柘榴の花へ2首 1, 2―
1．
三つ年をながめてきたる柘榴花けふに飛天舞ひ匂ひたつかな
Pomegranate flowers…
I’ve watched for three years
today
Hitens dancing
and their fragrance in the air
※Hiten means Buddhist Angel.

子をおもふ情愛ふかき訶梨帝母ザクロの花の紅緋きらめく
Hariti…
Goddess’s deep love
for her children
flowers of pomegranate
sparkling in scarlet.
3.
合歓の花こぬひとを待ついらだちを宥むるがごと穏やかに咲（え）む
flowers of silk tree
bloom peaceful
as if
appeasing my frustration
waiting for him not to come
4.
散歩路に立ち寄る姉を迎へてはをろがむがごと朝茶を淹れる
while out walking
my sister stops by me
as if worshipping
I welcome her
with morning tea
5.
光透き下枝(しずえ)たよりに這ひのぼる土縁深き蔦の性はも
through the sunlight
along the lower tree branch
growing up
what a deep-ground bond
ivy’s nature is

夏雲のたたまりて来し災難か太平川の氾濫浸水
Ah…it’s
a disaster being attacked
by multiple
layers of summer clouds
Taihei River is flooding
7.
警報の大雨なだれ我が県の県庁所在地 冠水しにき
the warning…
torrential raining
to pour and flood
the capital city
of my prefecture
8.
被災地の友人知人案じつつ警報にかまへて弛みなし
while worrying about
friends in the affected areas
I never let
my guard down
to the warnings
※写真の川は秋田市の太平川ではなく、雄物川で、秋田県内で最も大きな川です。尚、私が住んでいる地域は警報が出ましたが、川の氾濫はなく被害はありませんでした。
The river in the photo is not the Taihei River in Akita City but the Omono River, the largest river in Akita Prefecture. Though my area had frequent warnings, the river did not overflow, and we were unaffected.
9.
夏靄にもののかぎりは包まれしも薄らはかりしその先々を
summer haze…
although the end of things
is enwrapped
my vague speculation
extends ahead
10.
なほ有漏の身の空はかり些(さ)も知らずその先はるか御旨(みむね)のほどを
assumptions
of earthly human desires…
I can’t know
faraway, you, God’s
mind and will
