当地・秋田の今年の11月は例年より暖かく、初旬はまだ紅葉の美しい日が続き、冬支度も遅くなりました。が、次第に時雨がちになり、それはやがて雪へと変わってゆきました。今月はそうした移ろいを詠いました。
November in Akita, Japan, was warmer than usual, and at the beginning of the month, the autumn leaves were still beautiful, which delayed the preparation for winter. However, it gradually turned rainy and drizzle, eventually snowing. This month’s tanka poetry depicts these transitions.

垣穂なす満天星紅葉(どうだんもみじ)まさやかに真昼間の道あかく照らせり

brightly
lightening up my path

菊花展へ / To the Chrysanthemum Exhibition
八重十重めぐる菊華のうるはしや育てしひとの念(ねが)ひに馳する
eight and tenfold
petals going around
graceful mums …
my thoughts go to the love
of those who grow them

野葡萄は幽(ふか)く昏きに彩さえて蔦葉のすきに瑠璃に耀(かがよ)ふ

in ethereal and deeper
shining
in lapis lazuli blue
between the ivy leaves

彷徨へる秋のムーサは地によどみつひに粗草紅葉に作(な)せり
wandering
Autumn Muse stays
on the earth
and finally turns the weeds
into colored ones

運命の塊のごと深き雲ながれて結び雨に雪にと
like a mass of doom
deep clouds flow
and knot
together to form
rain and snow

闇つづき期待せしもの失せし後われわれとなりわが独楽（こま）まわる
after the darkness
and the expectations
are gone
becoming what I am
then, my top spins

標(しるべ)あり最早なやまず詠ふべし故郷の空雲花の様
here, a sign …
I should compose tanka
on my homeland’s
sky, clouds, and flowers
without worrying

肩なづる幽（かす）かに白き花びらは彩（いろ）を巡りし竟の八仙花
faded white petal
caressing my shoulder is
the last
hydrangeas having come
in various hues
