the wonder

in the eyes of his nephew-

snowflakes

雪片に甥の目の中不思議そう

in every wrinkle

a suspended memory-

autumn furrows

皺の中記憶を納む秋の畝

explosion of gems

above the almond trees

Note: Short Japanese Poetry of 17 phonetic Units of 5, 7, 5 Pattern

Inspired by English haiku by Angela Giordano, Hidenori Hiruta translated them literally into Japanese short poems first of all.

As a result, the interpretative Japanese haiku of 5, 7, 5 pattern are added to the English haiku as above.  

Surprisingly, two of the English haiku were interpreted into Japanese tanka（短歌）poems of 5,7,5,7,7 pattern. This is because English is different from Japanese.

BIOGRAPHY

Angela Giordano (born 1958) was born and lives in Avigliano (PZ), Italy.

She is married and mother of three children, she paints on fabric and various materials, she writes classical poetry, in the vernacular and for more than a decade she has been passionate about Japanese metrics (Haiku, tanka, senryu etc …).

She is present in numerous anthologies and online magazines of poetry and haiku, she has won some competitions.

Japanese poetry fascinates her for its essence and brevity of verses steeped in spirituality and Zen philosophy, where the here and now expresses the present of the haijin through sensory perceptions.

Haiku becomes a link between man and nature through the seasons to share their emotions.

She has been present in the TOP 100 Haiku European for seven years.

She loves poetry, good reading and great music.
