Note: Short Japanese Poetry of 17 phonetic Units of 5, 7, 5 Pattern

Inspired by ten English haiku by Kim Olmtak Gomes, Hidenori Hiruta translated them literally into Japanese short poems first of all.

As a result, five interpretative Japanese poems of 5, 7, 5 pattern are added to the English haiku as above. Some of them might be haiku(俳句), and others senryū(川柳).

And five of the English haiku are interpreted into Japanese tanka(短歌)poetry of 5,7,5,7,7 pattern.

This is because English is different from Japanese.

Biography:

My name is Kimberly Olmtak Gomes. I was born in Suriname, South America and I am currently living there.

At present, I am a part-time English language teacher at the Teacher Training Institute in Suriname.

Besides teaching I was also a school principal and later on manager at an ICT training institute.

In my spare time I love to read and write poetry, in particular haiku.

I became such a keen reader of haiku that I decided to learn the rules and eventually even ventured on writing haiku myself.

Now it is one of my most favourite pastimes.
