“Whispers of Nature” First International Haiku Contest 2026- Haiku Association of Sri Lanka

The Haiku Association of Sri Lanka (HASL) is happy to announce its first International Haiku Contest organized to celebrate International Haiku Poetry Day (April 17).

Submission Period: March 15 to April 10, 2026 (by Midnight Eastern Standard Time)

Guidelines & Eligibility

  Open to everyone worldwide and of all ages except the organizing committee

  • Theme: Whispers of Nature (You may explore the subtle, often unheard communication between the natural world – fauna, flora, rocks, rivers, ocean, sky, soil, planets, seasons, etc., and human experience.)
  • 1 to 3 entries per person
  • Language: English
  • Entrance: Free      
  • Please follow haiku principles when composing your haiku.
  • No strict syllable count
  • Must be an original piece of work by the entrant, not previously published in any form or under consideration elsewhere. Selected poems will be published on social media/webpage.
  • Results: Planning to release the results on April 17, 2026

Please send your haiku with your name, country, and your email address in the body of the email. No attachments please. Please note that the contest will be judged blindly. We will review every submission and will retain the right to disqualify any materials we deem inappropriate for publication.

 The winners and Honourable Mentions will be selected by an eminent haiku poet who has won many international awards. The name of the judge will be announced along with the results.
