自然はぐくむ金農や甲子園にて我らの心ひとつにす
Baseball Team
of Kanaashi Nogyo High School
brought up by nature
unites our spirits at Koshien
※Congratulations!!!
As one of Akita people, I dedicate to Kanaashi Nogyo High School’s Baseball Team to take the second place of National High School Baseball Championship called Koshien.
Aug. 21st. 2018, the final game of the 100th National High School Baseball Championship called Koshien in summer was over in Japan. Koshien is the most important game for high school baseball because at the game, the best team is judged of all Japanese high schools. And the baseball team of Kanaashi Nogyo (Agricultural) High School, which is the representative school of Akita Prefecture in this game, took the second place. This second place is very significant for us Akita people because the high school baseball team of Akita reached the final for the first time in 103 years. Players moved us so deeply. We cheered for them at Koshien or watching TV. Thank you so much for giving us the great impression and game!!

おほかたは意にならぬ故こだはらず 炎暑に焼かれ諸々の消ゆ
because
most things are beyond my will
I don’t fixate

盆過ぎて み魂(たま)かなたへ 風しろく 置きのみやげの秋桜（こすもす）そよぎ
Bon passed
spirits left for another world…
cosmos flowers
as parting gifts
whispering in white breeze

夜もすがら雨にあらはれ御影石 君を映して我をあはれぶ
you are mirrored
in a black granite
purified
by all night rain
… whispering love to me

諸々の消えし処に青ふかく露草は咲き其よりはじめん
at the point
the various disappeared
dewflowers
blooming in deep blue
…I try to begin there
※About “dewflower”, it is “dayflower” in English. I translated Japanese flower name “露草/ Tsuyukusa” as “dewflower” because Japanese”露” is dew. I think it sounds better for this piece.

For my friend’s brother, I attended at the funeral of my friend’s brother, who had been in hospital for a long time.

少年の日の君写る遺影なれ 母上姉上の悼み汲みゐて
your boyhood
reflected in the funeral-portrait
let me know
the deep grief
your mother and sister have

健やかに優れし君を知るがゆゑ 病閉ざせし生に涙す
knowing
you had good health and
smart brain —
my eyes drop tears
for your life closed by illness

あれこれとやりたきことのあったらふに 病阻みて三十年か
this and that
many things you would want
to do —
illness blocked you
for thirty years

念願の死にて解き放たれしかと吾が心境の複雑にあり
your desire
death may have
released you —
my thought are complex
my mind is puzzled …

限りなき御霊（みたま）となりて開かれよ 送南風（おくりまぜ）けふやさしくそよぎ
become an unlimited spirit
and open yourself
to the endless
southerly wind seeing off gently
today … early autumn
