10 pieces to Dakigaeri Valley>

Dakigaeri Valley is in Semboku City, Akita, Japan.

1

today

Dakigaeri Valley

let me know

that I still have the unknown

… I realize it

We have to walk through under the torii of Dakigaeri Shrine so that we can get to the valley.

2

red dragonflies

flying around Rock Bridge of Gods

they might be

messengers telling about

the change of seasons

3

stepping into

the different world?

the valley

spreads golden autumn

I haven’t seen

4

Goza-no-Ishi

placing itself

amid the river

plays with limpid water

the color Rokusho

※ Goza means the woven rush mat.

It is said that Goza-no-Ishi is so large as to be able to lay some mats.  And the top of the stone is flat.

Rokusho is one of Japanese traditional colors and it is the color verdigris.

5

renew

my secret vow—

being swayed

I cross Seigan Bridge

over a valley

Seigan means “vow”, “pledge” or “oath”.

6

dark tunnels

among mountains …

scant light

runs through

as if cutting off this world …

7

feeling my way

passing through tunnels …

I see

autumn deepen

and colorize the valley

8

for a moment …

white splashes

flow down

to the basin

Mikaeri Fall gathers time

9

all in one

the mountains are reflected

in the river

Dakikaeri Valley filled

with lucent autumn rays

10

one leaf

and one leaf —

ginkgo leaves

praising and dancing

before holy Gods’ shrine
