On December 23, 2018, Chen-ou Liu presented tanka, haiku, and senryu with his short bio and his recent photo, wishing us all the best in the coming year.

Here is a short bio:

Chen-ou Liu is currently the editor and translator of NeverEnding Story(neverendingstoryhaikutanka.blogspot.com), and the author of two award-winning books, Following the Moon to the Maple Land (First Prize, 2011 Haiku Pix Chapbook Contest) and A Life in Transition and Translation (Honorable Mention, 2014 Turtle Light Press Biennial Haiku Chapbook Competition). His tanka and haiku have been honored with many awards.

the shadow
of a minaret …
blood stains

 

光塔の影...

血で汚れる

 

shards of glass
in a pool of moonlight
winter deepens

 

ガラスの破片

月光の深みの中に

冬が深まる

 

child migrants
the droning of winter wind
through barbed wire

 

子供の移民

冬の風のうなり声

有刺鉄線を通って

 

for sale
the pool holds onto
a harvest moon

 

売却のために

プールが持ちこたえる

中秋の名月の方へ

 

foreclosure sign
where the snowman stood
morning chill

 

質流れの兆候

雪だるまが立っていた所

朝の冷気 

 

last shift done
an empty beer can rolling
down the midnight street

 

最後の変化が起こった

ビールの空き缶が転がっていく

真夜中の通りを

 

starry night
a floating bridge
in my dream

 

星の多い夜

一本の漂っている橋

私の夢の中で

 

memorial wall …
his youngest son’s name
slips into shadows

 

記念の壁...

彼の末っ子の息子の名前

消え去って影になる

 

winter clouds
in her hospital window
these shades of gray

child patient
folding and unfolding
