Kisakata

the scent of rice fields

wafts in the morning haze

 

象潟

田んぼの香り

朝もやの中に漂う

 

yellow sands

Basho’s bare feet trudging

step by step

 

黄色の砂

芭蕉の素足がとぼとぼ歩いている

一歩ずつ

 

scented rice

floats in the warm wind

reaching the hills

 

香る稲

温かな風の中をかすかに流れる

丘に達する

 

the Basho’s statue

washed in the sun

spring rice fields

 

芭蕉の像

日光を浴びて洗われる

春の田んぼ

ephemeral garden spreads

from hut to hut

 

秋の田

つかの間の庭が広がる

小屋から小屋へ

 

the Basho’s road

in the shadow of

an old cherry blossom

 

芭蕉の道

一本の古い桜の花の蔭に

 

through the open door

a farmer admires

a shimmering field of rice

 

開かれたドアを通して

農夫が見とれる

かすかに光る稲田に

Adam Kajzer – a poet born in Gdańsk, Poland. He was awarded Honourable Mention in two haiku competitions in Japan: Basho-an International English Haiku Competition 2018 and Basho Memorial English Haiku Contest (73rd Basho Festival) in the City of Iga in 2019.
