Note: Short Japanese Poetry of 17 phonetic Units of 5, 7, 5 Pattern
Inspired by ten English haiku by Neena Singh, Hidenori Hiruta translated them literally into ten Japanese short poems first of all.
As a result, the interpretative Japanese poems of 5, 7, 5 pattern are added to the English haiku as above.
Some of them might be haiku（俳句）, and others senryū（川柳).
Surprisingly, three of the English haiku were interpreted into Japanese tanka（短歌）poetry of 5,7,5,7,7 pattern.
This is because English is different from Japanese.

Brief Bio:
Neena Singh (born November 8, 1956, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India). A banker turned poet. Shortlisted for a Touchstone Award for Individual Poems in 2021, her poetry, and haiku, plus senryū, tanka, rengay, haibun, tanka prose, cherita, and haiga are regularly featured within international journals and magazines.
Her two collaborative rengay with Billie Dee, “Weavings” won the Haiku Society of America’s second prize in 2021 and “Thirst” won Third Place (tie) in 2023. Neena’s haiku won Honorable Mention in the following contests: Katikati contest (New Zealand) 2021, sharpening the green pencil contest (Romania) 2021, and Cherry Blossom Vancouver Festival 2022. Her haiku was a Runner-up in the Bulgarian Cherry Blossom Contest 2023 and selected by Society of Classical Poets among 23 Best haiku of 2023.
Neena has published two books: “Whispers of the Soul” and “One Breath Poetry”. She is a Guest Editor of The Wise Owl – a literary and art e-magazine, a columnist in Rhyvers – a multimedia web portal, and a member of the Kukai team of Triveni Haikai India. Neena runs a non-profit Bharat Prakarsh Foundation, for the education and health of underprivileged children in Chandigarh, India.
