Let haiku be on the UNESCO list!

On January 16, 2015, Ms. Djurdja Vukelic Rozic kindly sent me an e-mail as follows.

Dear Hidenori-san,

sorry if I’m tiring you with these messages.

There are so many wonderful texts around here in Croatia, and I had luck to meet some great haiku poets, we became friends.

Dubravko Korbus was among them.

With regards,

djurdja

CREATION THROUGH HAIKU

Haiku, of course, has become a part of the World Heritage centuries ago, yet, it would warm the hearts of hundreds of thousands of haiku poets all over the World, to have it acknowledged and listed as such, on the UNESO Intangible Cultural Heritage list of humanity.

Each moment we should be aware of beautiful and eternal thread of life happening around us.  And that’s exactly what haiku poetry is – conscious observation and vision of life.  In the moment we start creating haiku, we actually bring a resolution, allowing the beauty and wonder to enter into us, and change our life.

Haiku is “an art of experience” and his clearness, truth and sincerity depend upon conscience, inner peace and a degree of inner balance of his author.  Creating haiku is focus on the present (the only real) moment in living and emerging into the very essence of things.  It is pure awareness for, in order to be able to write down some beauty, first you have to be aware of its presence.  Beauty of some flower we can see only if we are aware of the beauty within it.  On the contrary, we will see only a seamy and not interesting flower, “just weed”, and perhaps, we will not notice it.

Haiku poet knows.  He knows he is surrounded with beauty and wonder.  And that’s why, in those moments of creation, he ignores his ego and restricted mind and writes happenings around himself truly and sincerely, for he knows, they are very special.  This sincerity and truth fit the natural and godly course of things perfectly.

Bashō had explained the value of things the best, while punishing his students:  “Your weakness is to try to say something unusual.  You are in search of glistening verses in distant things, and yet, they are in the things around you.”

Haiku poem is a mirror of the poet’s soul, a moment of truthful creation where the poet brings out his own truth about what he really is, and that is our true purpose in this world.  Huge value of haiku lies in giving his reader, too, the possibility to express himself, and the truth about what he really is, independently of the poet, for the poet did not abuse the poem with his thinking and remarks.

So, light the light of your soul and motivate other people to do so.  Each moment is a good moment to change and make nicer both our life and lives of the people around us.  Be like buson’s candle and spread the light.   Of course, you need not wait for the Spring to do so:

KREACIJA  KROZ  HAIKU

A haiku-poezija jest upravo to – svjesno promatranje i viđenje života. U trenu kada počnemo stvarati haiku zapravo donosimo odluku da dopuštamo ljepoti i čudu da uđu u nas i potpuno nam promijene život.

U protivnom vidjet ćemo tek neki neugledan i nezanimljiv cvijet, “običan korov”, a možda ga čak nećemo ni zamijetiti.

Haiku pjesnik zna.

Ogromna vrijednost haikua jest i u tome što on i čitatelju pruža priliku izraziti sebe i istinu o onome Tko On Zaista Jest neovisno o pjesniku jer pjesnik haiku-pjesmu nije oskvrnuo svojim razmišljanjima i primjedbama.

Ovdje ne postoji i nije važno ništa osim istinskog i iskrenog izražavanja svoje biti kroz vrhunsku kreaciju. Izražavanja najviše inačice Onog Što Zaista Jesmo kroz sve događaje u našim životima. Bili oni veliki ili naizgled potpuno beznačajni.

Upalite, dakle, svjetlost svog duha, a zatim potaknite i druge da i oni to učine. Svaki trenutak dobar je da promijenimo i uljepšamo svoj život i živote ljudi oko nas. Budite poput Busonove svijeće i širite svjetlost.
