Let haiku be on the UNESCO list!

On January 16, 2015, Ms. Djurdja Vukelic Rozic kindly sent me an e-mail as follows.

Dear Hidenori-san,

sorry if I’m tiring you with these messages.

There are so many wonderful texts around here in Croatia, and I had luck to meet some great haiku poets, we became friends.

Zvonko Petrović was among them.

With regards,

djurdja

HAIKU – POETRY OF NATURE

Japanese, we know, cherish love towards Nature.  This is particularly evident in gardening, ikebana and haiku poetry.  Of course, love towards Nature is not the only characteristics of people of the Country of the Rising Sun and this love share people from all countries.  Just to remember descriptions of landscapes in our own literature…  Haiku poetry contents perception of the moment of the eternal truth which we may notice in all elementary natural phenomenon:  the Sun, the Moon and stars, thunderbolts, snow and rains, in the soil, sea and rivers, in all manifestations of life.  Because of that, haiku written centuries ago is familiar to us, as well.

It has been proven long time ago, beauty is the truth about sensibly-direct from.  Japanese poet is the one who, while looking at Nature knows how to notice such details, live them openly, truthfully and write them down to be told to other people.  And that’s why a reader of haiku accepts his contents as if looked at them at that very moment and lives them as moments of exceptional beauty, projecting them into his/her own feelings.  That’s why it is very difficult to think of somebody who knows Japanese haiku poetry and loves Nature, without haiku being close and dear to him/her.

Nowadays, when we so ruthlessly pollute the atmosphere, land and rivers, ravaging our forests, poisoning the animals and ourselves as well, we should preserve and care the touches and ties with Nature, safekeeping the images of its life from transcendence as the moments of eternal truth and beauty!  That’s what does photography and cinematography in their own way, that’s what do artists and writers, and in all that, haiku too has its, not small part, at all.

HAIKU – POEZIJA PRIRODE

Japanci, znamo, gaje ljubav prema prirodi.  To posebno dolazi do izražaja u uređivanju vrtova, ikebani i haiku poeziji.
