なにものも拒まれぬ身に甘んずる梅が枝けふは霧氷に光る

 

twigs of a plum tree 

resign themselves 

to being unable 

to refuse any things …

today, sparkling in rime

冬陽の光まばゆき雪原のおぼろなる間に我はやすらふ

 

I feel at peace

in misty space 

between 

snowfield and

dazzling winter sunshine

いや高く雪降り積みて天ちかく雪除(よ)する場の聖壇の如

 

the higher 

snow falling and piling

the closer

a snow dumping place to the celestial

like a sanctuary

日(け)ならべて雪ゆるみなく除雪に勤しむ人の丹精にあり

 

day after day

without snow lessening

those who

clear away snow

apply themselves diligently

山の童(こ)か雪(ゆき)冠(かぶ)る石点々と川のまなかに邪気なくゐたり

 

kids of the mountain…

lovely stones muffled 

with snow

here and there innocently

in the river

＜花嫁道中に5首  For Hanayome Dochu / Bridal Procession at Ugo Town＞

 

花嫁道中は秋田県羽後町で毎年催されている冬のイベントです。昔ながらの花嫁道中を再現したもので、一行は、結婚式場のある羽後町の山間部の田代（たしろ）にある長谷山邸までの12km の道のりを馬橇に乗った花嫁花婿とともに歩いてゆきます。途中の七曲峠（ななまがりとうげ）越えが一番の難所だといわれています。町の人の話によりますと、7×7 計49か所の曲がり道があるので「七曲峠（ななまがりとうげ）」といわれているということです。写真は＜花嫁道中2018＞に際して撮りました。

 

The Hanayome Dochu which means the Bridal Procession is an annual winter event in Ugo Town, Akita, Japan.  It reproduces the Bridal Procession in an old-fashioned style.  The party with the bride & groom riding in the horse sleigh walk 12km/ about 7.5mi to the wedding place called the Residence of the Haseyama Family in Tashiro, a mountainous area of Ugo Town.  It is said that the most difficult stage is to go over the Nanamagari Pass.  According to the story in the town, because the pass has <seven times seven equals forty-nine> total 49 curves, it has been called “Nanamagari Pass”.

 

※Nana means Seven and Magari means Curve in Japanese.  About the photographs, I took them at <Hanayome Dochu 2018>.

馬橇ひく蓑笠すがたに百年の時は巡り来　花嫁道中

 

sedge hat, straw snow cape

and pulling the horse sleigh …

one hundred years time

revives all at once

…the Hanayome Dochu in winter

輪をえがき撒かれし餅をキャッチせむ夢追い人に幸よあれかし

 

drawing circles

rice cakes being scattered…

folks catch them

May the Gods bless you

and me, a dreamer

幾たりも歩みゆきしかこの道を続きし者は時を新たに

 

have many

walked on this way?

those who follow it

walk all the same way

yet renew their time

かまくらの灯火(ともしび)絶えぬ七曲(ななまがり)峠(とうげ)を越えて祝宴の場へ
