World Haiku Series 2019 (40)

Haiku by Dubravko Marijanović

 

through the woods

followed by the sun

after a raven’s croak

 

森を通って

太陽が後について来る

カラスの鳴き声の後

 

writing a poem

little girl is inadvertently

painting a moustache

 

詩を書いている

小さな女の子がうっかり

口ひげを描いている

 

before the dawn

a bitch barks at a woman

with the umbrella

 

夜明け前

雌犬が傘を持っている女性に吠える

 

a long-haired boy

swims across the creek

with a butterfly in his hand

 

長髪の少年

小川を泳ぐ

蝶を手に

 

neighbour’s children

don’t care for cherry blossoms

while eating the cherries

 

隣人の子供

桜は気にしない

さくらんぼを食べている間

 

three fishermen

whistling after a jogger –

does she hear them?

 

三人の漁師

ジョギングの後口笛を吹く-

彼女は耳にするだろうか

 

autumn dusk –

all the roads lead to

the circus tent

 

秋の夕暮れ-

全ての道は通じる

サーカスのテントに

 

little masked girl

spills the sun from her

tinfoil hair

 

小さな仮面の女の子

太陽をこぼす

彼女のアルミ箔の髪から

 

the roar of donkeys

resounds through the canyon

up to the log cabin

 

ロバの吠え声

峡谷に響く

丸太小屋まで

 

virgin snow

down the same path

I walk anther dog   

 

初雪

同じ道を下る

私は別の犬を散歩させる

Short biography

Dubravko Marijanović was born in Mostar in 1955. He grew up in Baranya region of Croatia. At the Zagreb University he read medicine specializing in otorhinolaryngology.

He travels a lot. As a mountaineer he climbed some of summits in the Alps and Andes.

He is the father of three children.

Dubravko was actively involved in Croatia’s War of Independence as a doctor. After the war he stopped practicing medicine and worked as a manual worker in Siberia.

Today he lives and works in Zagreb.

Thus far he published eight books of poetry.

His poems were also published in various magazines and anthologies in Croatia and abroad.
