Let haiku be on the UNESCO list!

Here is a letter of support of the campaign from Ms. Malvina Mileta, Nedešćina nearby Labin, Istria, Croatia.

The former half is written in Croatian, and the latter half in English.

We sincerely wish to appreciate and share it with each other.

U svakoj vlati travi pronalazim dragulj .

To whom it may concern

Not even in my dream could I think of Haiku as something that could change my life, make it more interesting and nicer.  But, everything I met in my life stopped to be a simple thing or just passing by, once I met haiku.  Haiku helped me to see and live another dimension of everything that surrounds me.

From day to day,  haiku became an important link towards the world around me, just like the air I breathe is.  Long, dark nights became my friends and days, wonderful symphonies.  In each and every grass blade, with help of haiku, I’ve learned to discover a jewel.  My dreams travel with the clouds, on the wings of butterflies I flutter from flower to flower, inhaling all love, bowing there where it’s needed.

I am just a simple and mortal human being, but riches of my soul are large thanks to haiku poetry, for with haiku I was given a chance to touch a nicer reality without which my soul would be empty.

It would be better for all if we paid more attention to all living beings around us.  Nature, things that surround us, they do not speak but they have their eyes and heart.  They never stay indifferent if we gift them with tenderness, respect and understanding.  I know, it might sound unreal or too much a poetical, perhaps it was so to me some time ago as well, until I discovered the strength of Haiku, as large as the sky and as wonderful as arms that hug everything that breaths and gives us its fragrance.  It gives a better quality to life: it is nice when you meet somebody’s flower, murmur of the waves, warbling of the bird, when you cuddle somebody’s hair or while harvesting rice in the field, and all that thanks to haiku which brings people together.

I am pleased if I can bring haiku to somebody who lives near me or we meet.  It fills me with pride for I know, I am doing a good and right thing.  I know, with haiku we may save the world and bring love back to it. Haiku is a bird with free wings and the wealth of man on Earth, we can and we must share.
