World Haiku Series 2019 (98)

Haiku by Liliana Negoi

winter’s private stash

of sweet-scented summer dreams –

a frozen rosebud

*

snow began to melt –

the magpie soothing its thirst

from the rusty eaves

*

swift, a butterfly –

in the corner of my eye

a shadow fading

*

in the old forest

a woodpecker taps for worms –

far, a semantron

*

peasant with a yoke –

water in the two buckets,

water on his brow

*

curtain fluttering –

bravely surfing on its waves

a small ladybug

*

raking withered leaves –

from a distant radio

a Requiem flows

*

writing poetry –

on my fingertips ink drops

of black Muscat must

*

soft whirling snowflakes

play in the air around me –

frozen butterflies

*

on the wooden bridge –

snowflakes like cherry petals

swirling and swirling

Bio:

Liliana Negoi was born in 1979 in Craiova, Romania.

Writing poetry, as an activity per se, entered her life around the age of 18, first in her native language, and then, around 24, she began to write also in English. She also writes short prose in both languages.

She is active on two personal blogs, one in English http://summaryofmysoul.wordpress.com and one in Romanian http://curcubeeinalbsinegru.wordpress.com.

A part of her English texts are gathered in several collections (some printed – “Sands and shadows”, “Footsteps on sand – tanka collection” – and some in the form of e-book – “Croquis – 25 sonnets” and “Amber drops – haiku collection”), and in December 2015 she printed her first Romanian poetry book, “Aparenta curgere a lucrurilor” (“The apparent flow of things”).

Her texts have been published in various magazines both in Romania and abroad and have been included in many poetry anthologies.

Among the prizes obtained she is very fond of the third place obtained at the Kusamakura International Haiku Contest from 2013, the third place obtained at the “Peregrinari” short prose contest, Ireland 2014, the honorable mention obtained at the National Tanka Contest 2016, the honorable mention obtained in the Akita 5th Japan-Russia Haiku Contest 2016 and the first place obtained at the “Peregrinari” short prose contest, Ireland 2017.

Here is her honorably-mentioned haiku in the Akita 5th Japan-Russia Haiku Contest 2016.

a ruined brick wall –

what would the April grass know

more than its shadow?
