Haiku by Little Brush

 

Theme: Moments on my life’s path

 

Haiku:

 

slowly creeping fog

at the edge of the forest

give mushrooms a bath

 

ゆっくりと忍び寄る霧

森の端に

キノコをお風呂に入れる

the black cat sits down

to tell the world what she thinks

about her breakfast

 

黒猫が座っている

朝食について考えていることを

世間の人に伝えるために

sunlight rests upon

the mourning dove at my door

seeking his lost love

 

日光が向けられる

戸口で悲しんでいる鳩に

失われた愛を求めながら

this midwestern haze

covers up my sickly breath

birdsong in the trees

 

この中西部のもや

私の病弱な息を覆い隠す

木々には鳥のさえずり

a hazy sunset

glitters on the riverbend

cars drive right on by

 

かすんでいる夕日

川の湾局部できらめく

車がそばを通り過ぎる

already midnight

candlelight fills the bedroom

rain against the glass

 

すでに真夜中

ろうそくの明かりが寝室を埋める

ガラスには雨

early morning drive

reveals a busted headlight

forced to make repairs

 

早朝のドライブ

ヘッドライトが作動しないことが判明

余儀なく修理

a single black car

on a wet neighborhood road

passing by my house

 

たった一台の黒い車

濡れた近所の道路上

私の家を通り過ぎて行く

a knock on the door

reveal green eyes by my feet

feline visitor

 

ドアをノックする音

私の足のそばに緑色の目を見せる

猫の訪問者

sleepless night again

the creaking of the house will

keep me company

 

再び眠れぬ夜

家のきしむ音が

私に付き合ってくれるだろう

Fond of haiku, tanka, and haibun, he especially enjoys the poetry of Matsuo Bashō and Kobayashi Issa, and hopes to one day write a travel diary inspired by Bashō’s Oku no Hosomichi.
