overgrown
the furze bushes on the hill
as fertile as sin

生い茂った
丘の上のハリエニシダの茂み
罪のように繁殖

strokes
echoing the silence –  
midnight

時計の打つ音に
沈黙が反響する
真夜中

nocturnal –  
the green lamp-eyes
of ditches

夜行性
緑のランプの目
水路の

an old photo 
seeing in his eyes
what was lost 

古い写真
彼の目に見える
失われたもの

a candle 
between wine glasses
old flames

ろうそく
ワイングラスの間
古い炎

turning to gold
against a turquoise sky—
copper chestnut

金に変わる
青緑色の空を背景に
銅色の栗

fuchsias   
scarlet and purple 
ballerinas 

フクシア
緋色と紫
バレリーナ

ticking clock
the distance between 
thunder claps

時を刻む時計
間の距離
雷が拍手する

the ruin standing 
stately still by the water
a blue crane

廃墟立っている
水辺に堂々と静かに
一羽のアオサギ

bedtime 
shadow retreating 
into shadow

就寝時間
影の後退
影に

our tree 
the arrow carved through the heart
now snapped

私たちの木
心に刻まれた矢
今ポキンと折れた

Mike Gallagher is an Irish writer and editor. 
His prose, poetry, haiku and songs have been published worldwide.
