Mr. Chen Xiaoou sends his email, saying “I have just come back from my hometown Fujian. So I attach a picture I took there, at the door of a cake shop, with the name of the chain shop calligraphed by my late grandfather, a famous calligrapher in my hometown, who lived 100 years.”
A REPORT by Mr. Chen Xiaoou On 29 June and 16 July respectively Mr. Chen Xiaoou, a haiku poet in Kunming, China, held a second and a third lecture on English haiku, with altogether 24 people attending with great enthusiasm. Each lecture was composed of four parts: (1) the origin of the art of haiku, (2) how it has spread all over the world, (3) the appreciation of classic haiku work and (4) the appreciation of modern haiku work. The lecture was very much enjoyed by the participants, who made careful notes of interesting haiku pieces. Many of them expressed their surprise at the beauty and elegance of the art of haiku and at the fact that they have even never heard of it before!
