World Haiku Series 2021 (65) Haiku by Alessandra Delle Fratte

first of the year —
flowers in the wind
open to hope

winter rain —
the same greyness
on palaces and sky

the last cricket
sings a song —
moonless night

clover in bloom —
in your hair
carnival corianders

sailing at dusk —
the breathlessness of pandemic
melts in the waves

winter sky —
your eyes over the years
always the same

under the snow
I tread on dry branches —
cornflakes in the milk

frozen night —
just a wine glass
in solitude

a ray of sunshine
after the last storm —
in memory of my father

hailstones —
cherries on the tree
in just a few months

Presentation:

Alessandra Delle Fratte is an Italian psychotherapist (Rome), with a great passion for the haiku, since the 2015. In the haiku written in English, particularly, she finds the right brevity and rhythm that allow – to each verse – to express the most archetypical or intimate thoughts.
Present in THF’s Haiku Registry, her haiku were published on international digital journals/blogs including Otata, The Haiku Foundations, Charlotte Digregorio’s Writer’s Blog. Awards: Honoured Mention at the Gustavo Pece Italian Prize (2019). Work Anthologized: A.A.V.V. Haiku Column Anthology Vol. 4 (2018), Vol. 5 (2019), Vol.6 (2020). Recently published her first Haiku Collection Three jasmines scent my tea, with poems in Italian translated in English.*
