World Haiku Series 2022 (17) Haiku by Chen Xiaoou (China)

Haiku by Chen Xiaoou

(1)

花落尽

未知春处觅

山寺桃花开

all the flowers

have faded away

in the world of men

where can I find the trail

of the gone spring

O the peaches

are still in bloom

at the mountain temple

(2)

清泉流山

和尚汲水到溪旁

妙寺藏深山

a Buddhist monk

is beheld drawing water

at the side of a stream

that flows out of the mountains

deep in which a temple

should be hidden

(3)

藤蔓作索

饿马行至塔楼下

镇鸣钟

a long grape vine

(with its fresh leaves

still upon it)

is fastened to the tower bell

for a rope

a hungry wandering horse

walks to the tower

(and takes a morsel)

the sound of the bell

is heard all over the town

(4)

离家三十

儿童相不相

客何来

away from home

for thirty long years

(when I come back)

the children I encounter

ask me curiously

“where are you from

stranger?”

(5)

读经

风习习

书页舞翩翩

reading a literary classic

by the south window

the light curtain waves

in the gentle breeze

which turns the leaves

of my book

(6)

滴水非

路旁一野花开

便知春天来

a drop of water

does not mean the sea

while a little wild flower

on roadside does denote

the coming spring

(7)

秋深草木枯

春色依旧在

溪流漂花来

the deep of autumn

all the grass and woods

are withering

yet the spring scenery

is still able to be found

deep in the mountains

for flower petals are

beheld floating down

the mountain brook

(8)

千年古玉池

静水之中藏月亮

古香金塘

in the still water of

the thousand-year-old pond

floats a moon even more

ancient than the pond

(9)

云南玫瑰

藏在糕点里

心上人

enclosing my love

inside Yunnan rose-cakes

I make them delivered

to my fair lady

(10)

吹叶落

落花返枝

葡萄美酒后

the autumn wind

stripping the leaves

off their tree

suddenly I behold

a fallen blossom

return to the twig

after I have taken

a bottle of wine
