早春のひかり全き駒ヶ岳 田沢の湖(うみ)に霊峰うつす

Mt. Komagatake

in the whole light of early spring

mirrors 

its beauteous divinity

in Lake Tazawa

辰子潟おもひ深きの奇し乙女そこひにしづみ凍つること無し

Lake Tazawa

has never frozen 

because 

the ethereal girl loving beauty 

deeply sinks to the utmost

学び舎(まなびや)の灯火ほのぼの幽暗の空に枝おく目覚めの桜

mildly

lights of the school lit

awakening cherry

spreads its branches

in the dark sky

幾世へば呪縛の鎖解かるるか春なほとほく雪中の暗

how many years 

does it take for my spell

to be released?

spring is still far off

the darkness in snow

何ごとも無きかのごとく青ひかる地震(ない)の夜明くる空の心は

the blue sky shines

as if nothing has happened.

早春のさ緑あはし雪芝は雪のしたよりそとかすみ揺る

early spring

greens are sparkling—

snowy grasses

swaying a bit out of

snow-covered garden

窓越しの季(とき)の音今宵は聞こえず我が沈思の間ふかくひろごる

tonight

no seasonal sounds

over the window…

the space of my ponderings

deeply widens

君知るや雪に埋(うづ）もれ恋するを桜のごとく我(あ)も目覚めばや

do you know

my love is buried

in the snow?

I wish it could wake up

like the cherry

旅立ちに春の残月かげろふはわれらが無事を祈りたまふか

as we leave

at daybreak in early spring

lingering moon is

shimmering in the sky…

will it wish us a safe trip?

天あふぎ月撮らむとすも撮られずはこの月にあらずと諭さむか
