＜ボツメキの水に五首 / five pieces of tanka to Botsumeki Spring>
１・
炎天のこころぐき日に思ひ出づるボツメキの水 鈴鳴るごとし
in the blazing sun–
my mind is out of breath
I think of
Botsumeki Spring
like a bell ringing
2・
みめぐみの神の泉か八塩山ふところ深く雪を解かしむ
with a blessing —
is it a miraculous spring
given by God?
in the deep heart of Mt. Yashio
piled-snow melts into water
3・
水霊は涼風よぶかぎらぎらと緑光(て)る樹々にはか爽やぐ
the water spirit
calling for a cool breeze–
trees’ leaves
with the glistening sun
suddenly sway
4・
真澄鏡 清みしそこひに我を見む魂かへるボツメキの水
Mirror of Truth —
see me as I am
in the limpid water
Botsumeki Spring
where the spirit returns
5・
八塩山 神みそなはす水の源(もと)われら憩はむ真昼の木陰
Mt.Yashio…God sees
all at the crystal spring
let’s breathe
fresh air in the shade of
the midday trees
6・
暫くは魔界の闇にとらはれむ贖ふべきの我が罪故か
for my original sin
to be expiated …
for a while
I may have been caught
in the darkness of hell
7・
意味無意味 渦中にあるの苦を問はれ 縁(えにし)のあやの義をおもはずや
is it meaningful or not?
being asked about my suffering
amid the case
don’t I think of justice of karma
yes, I do
8.
文月の朱色にもゆる望月は鎖のごとく鉄塔うつす
July’s full moon
reflects the power tower
in vermillion
like a chain binding them
never to be separated
9・
累々と白花咲かす栝楼根のくゆるかをりに盆香しのぶ
in layers…
japonicum-white flowers
blooming
their faint scent reminds me
of the incense of Bon
10.
神を俟つ野末の茂に筋きざむ忘れ草さく……強くあれかし
in the field
waiting for God
a daylily
amidst bushes is in bloom
curving stripes… be strong
