新玉にしきり降りくる雪秘むる魔性の刃ゆるびなきもの
in the New Year
snow falls endlessly
while hiding
the blade of demon
…a harsh one

白冴えの装束まとひ雪女かなた影らふ雪しまく朝
Yuki-Onna’s silhouette
in pure white kimono
from afar–
on the morning
with razing blizzard
※” Yuki-Onna” is a Japanese spectre that means snow fairy or snow woman with terrible power to freeze humans and things.

空透かぬ雪の日に聞く雪の事故 山の遭難 除雪に車
opaque sky–
you heard the accidents due
to the snow
lost in the mountain
snow plougher and drivers

雪雲に日遮られし真昼間に地に喰はれにし一人(いちにん)すすむ
at midday
snow clouds blocking
out rays
one being eaten by the earth
walks ahead

家並みの交はり深き温もりにしまき和らぎ雪華舞ひちる
in the houses’ row
blizzard changes to fluffy snow
because
people interact with each other
in the close warmth

橋なかばここまでと雪また荒びやさしくあらず 帰路の厳しき
amid the bridge–
so much for grace
snow turns
rough again, making
my homeward path severe

新しきアウターに笑む 雪道にドライブ厭ふ牛歩の途上
while walking slow
I smile at my new outerwear–
on the day
of avoiding a drive due
to the snowy road

幸ある日けふは降らずとおぼゆるもけふも降りたり 暮雪こんこん
a happy day–
although I thought it would
not snow
also, today, evening snow
falls thick and fast

ふうはりと白雪のまふイオン駐車場に愛車まつ聖なる夜
Christmas Eve—
white snow drifting
lightly fluffily
a beloved car waits for me
in the parking lot of Aeon

顧みて嘆き深きの一大事を正念場とする一年（ひととせ）暮る
in retrospect…
a year with a deep grief and
a critical problem
that became the moment of truth
comes to a close
