Homecoming
breaks for a while

里帰りしばし佇む夏の花

White azalea
in Tatsuko’s pond
colored carp
躑躅咲く辰子の池や錦鯉

Hydrangea
reflecting themselves
on the pond
紫陽花や池面に映る七変化

Green breeze
Tatsuko in recollection of
her maiden days
緑風に来し方思ふ辰子かな

Fish swimming
in the Innai stream
a good memory
なつかしや魚の泳ぐ院内川

Picking bracken shoots
in Mount Innaidake
another good memory
わらび採り良き思い出や院内岳

In cold winds
snow camellia bud
opening
寒風に椿の蕾開きけり

Tatsuko’s paradise
雪椿辰子遊びし椿台

Fawn lilies
in the home mountain
along the path
かの山へ片栗の路登りけり

Such beautiful scenery! “White azalea” is a lovely haiku on its own, but the photograph makes it even more interesting – I wouldn’t have imagined azalea growing in the pond!
