夏の雲院内の地に辰子生る

The garden

waiting for Tatsuko

summer flowers

主待つ辰子の庭や夏の花

Yellow partinia

whose name is Ominaeshi

Tatsuko’s flower

在りし日に辰子の植えし女郎花

Homecoming

breaks for a while

summer flowers

里帰りしばし佇む夏の花

White azalea

in Tatsuko’s pond

colored carp

躑躅咲く辰子の池や錦鯉

Hydrangea

reflecting themselves

on the pond

紫陽花や池面に映る七変化

Green breeze

Tatsuko in recollection of

her maiden days

緑風に来し方思ふ辰子かな

Fish swimming

in the Innai stream

a good memory

なつかしや魚の泳ぐ院内川

Picking bracken shoots

in Mount Innaidake

another good memory

わらび採り良き思い出や院内岳

In cold winds

snow camellia bud

opening

寒風に椿の蕾開きけり

Tatsuko’s paradise

雪椿辰子遊びし椿台

Fawn lilies

in the home mountain

along the path

かの山へ片栗の路登りけり

12 photo haiku above are from Hiruta’s new book, “A Modern Version of the Legend of Tatsuko-hime”, whose title is “辰子の復活 Resurrection of Tatsuko.  He has been writing this book since August, 2021.

  2. Such beautiful scenery! “White azalea” is a lovely haiku on its own, but the photograph makes it even more interesting – I wouldn’t have imagined azalea growing in the pond!
