昨夜（きぞ）に読む夏目先生こだはりし素人玄人われも思案す
reading last night’s essay

with which he was obsessed

註/ Note: 夏目漱石(1867～1916)は日本近代文学の代表的作家です。代表的な作品として小説「吾輩は猫」「坊ちゃん」「こころ」他。作句もし、親友の正岡子規を敬愛していたと言われています。彼はたくさんの文学論等も書いていますが、そのなかに「素人と玄人」について書いたエッセイがあります。概要は、素人のほうが、細部にこだわる平凡な玄人よりも、まず芸術全体を一眼に把握する素人の方が優れているのではないかという考えのようです。（素人．玄人の漢字表記は夏目漱石が生きていた頃の表記とは異なります。）とても面白く同感しました。
Natsume Sensei is Natsume Soseki. Natsume Soseki (1867-1916) was one of the most famous writers of modern Japanese literature. His famous works are the novels “I am a Cat”, “Botchan” and “Kokoro”. He also wrote haiku and is said to have been a great admirer of his close friend Masaoka Shiki. Furthermore, he wrote many essays and articles on literature, including one on ” Amateur and Expert “. In brief, I think his view is that the amateur, who first of all grasps the whole of art with overlooking, is superior to the mediocre professional, who is obsessed with details. (About the Chinese characters used for “Amateur” and “Expert” are different from those used by Soseki Natsume when he was alive.) It is quite an interesting essay , and I agree with him.

菅の根のながき縁(えにし)とおもひつつこの坂道をのぼりゆくかな
thinking of you
as a close-knit
and long karma
like the roots of a sedge–
I climb up this slope

かがやかに乙女椿に朝日さし蕾ふくらみ結界やぶる
sunrise…
Otome-camellia
shining gloriously
swelling buds break through
the boundary
6.
春うれふワクチン接種はじむるも日並べ増ゆるコロナ感染者
spring blue…
though vaccination starts
by the day
the number of Covid-19
growing more and more
7.
淡紅に桜咲きみつるお城山うれひの春を束の間ほどく
Oshiroyama filled
with light pink cherries
in full bloom
briefly, relieves
my gloomy spring.
註/Note: お城山は横手城のある横手公園のことです。秋田県横手市にあります。
Oshiroyama is Yokote Park in Yokote City, Akita.

your friends may have heard

on the cherry blossoms…
the Moon Emperor
releases my thoughts and
cleanses me

春の月くまなく照らせ黒々と我に迫りし闇の流れも
without clouds…
spring moon
light up the world
including the dark stream
blackly closing in on me
