日輪はなべて差しきて針槐の房のかがやき谷をうるほす

sunrays

shining on the earth

equally–

black locust flowers cast

peace over the valley

花の幾ふさ風にゆれ針槐の甘き香みつる水無月は立つ

June starts

with bunches of flowers

swaying in the wind

and the sweet fragrance of

black locust flowers

針槐　君に届くかこの香り我らが痛みもいささかなりと

black locust flowers…

will this scent ever

reach you?

and if it could

what too of our pains?

御坊のたまふは法要の積もる卒都婆は盆に焚き魂(たま)迎へませ　　

our revered monk said

that stupas accumulated for

the memorial services

should be burnt during the Bon

to welcome the souls

総身で空のゆらぎを受けるごと花序ひろげ大花独活咲く

cow parsnips bloom

with their inflorescences

spreading out

as if to catch fluctuation

of the sky

ぼろぼろの心ひきずり良き風のふかばとそっと朝戸をあくる

dragging

my torn and tattered heart

I gently open

a door in the morning

hoping for a nice breeze

淡紅の林檎の花に君とたはぶるる夢さむ……窓辺の蝶は

awake from my dream

playing with you

at apple flowers

… what happened to the butterfly

by the window sill?

やうやうに朝は来にけり夏の葉の玉露(たまつゆ)のなか遺影微笑む　

at last

morning has come

in a crystal dew

of the summer greenery leaf

your final portrait is smiling.

わが前の白くきやかな夏蝶は非業に逝きし君の影かも

A butterfly

with bright white wings

flies before me

Is it your spirit

because of a tragic death?

姫空木に舞ひ訪ふ白蝶にかなしき安らぎの影を見む

I see

a shadow of your

sad peace

in the white butterfly flying

around deutzias
